Lagniappe One. Summer 2002.
In New Orleans, the word "Lagniappe" (pronounced LAN-IAPE) mean "a little something extra." I will be adding a little bit of Lagniappe to the website every few months. The photographs will likely be from a small project I am currently working on, or perhaps something from the past that I wanted to share for the first time.
The first installment comes from my recent trip to England and Germany. Not wanting to really "work," I decided that I would return to my roots as a black and white docmmentary photographer. I had no expectations of capturing anything worth while, and simply shot at will, when I felt like it. At times, I caught myself confronting a line between the pleasure of making an image, and "working" to capture something meaningful. I tried not to cross the line, and let things happen. What emerges is often a keen attention to design and form, but with the occasional political blow to the gut. Here then are pictures from my vacation....
