It was a cold Saturday morning and Milly and I met in Aaron Henry's drug store. We had no plan or agenda other than to hang out and take pictures. We wandered about the black section of Clarksdale for most of the day, meeting people and going in and out of cafes, shops, and stores. I shot black and white, Milly shot color. A few months later I took a job in Vicksburg, 90 miles to the south of Greenville, and I was never able to actively pursue my budding Delta project again. I made a few prints of these images, but the negatives remained unedited in files. It was not until the 30th anniversary of our meeting that we finally had an exhibit of the work. To this day, these images remain among my favorites simply because they are so organic and unpretentious.
